Dr. Matt Busick, Practice Owner
Dr. Matt Busick joined the practice in 2012. He is happy to be back with CVH after getting his start as a technician here many years ago. Dr. Busick earned his veterinary degree from St. George’s University, and spent time in Oregon and Virginia prior to joining CVH. He enjoys all aspects of small animal practice, but has a strong interest in surgery and dentistry. During his time away from the hospital, he enjoys the outdoors, cycling, and travel. Dr. Busick lives in Centreville with his wife and two children.
Dr. Marian Shaw
Dr. Marian Shaw is a graduate of Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary medicine at Virginia Tech. Her undergraduate studies were at Tufts University where she studied animal behavior. Dr. Shaw’s main interests in veterinary medicine are laser surgery, sports medicine, pet birds, and exotic pets. She does volunteer work in wildlife medicine. She has worked with veterinarians at The National Zoo and Sea World.
Dr. Shaw lives on a farm with her husband, Doug Dobbin, and her dogs and llamas. Her hobbies include being a 4H leader, teaching the Llama Project, and dog agility. She raises, trains, and shows Labrador Retrievers and Norfolk Terriers.
Dr. Carly Dexter
Dr. Carly Dexter joined the practice in 2013. She earned a degree in Animal Sciences from Penn State University and her DVM from Ross University. She completed training at Oklahoma State University before returning to her home state of Maryland. Dr. Dexter enjoys all areas of small animal medicine, and has special interest in dermatology. She welcomed a little girl in June 2016, adding to a household of four dogs and two cats!
Dr. Madeline (“Maddie”) Scofield
Dr. Scofield was born and raised in Odessa, Texas. She attended Texas Tech Univ. for an undergraduate degree in Zoology and earned her DVM from Oklahoma State Univ. in 2010. Dr. Scofield worked in Colorado and Wyoming, where she received certification in veterinary acupuncture from Colorado State Univ. prior to moving to the Eastern Shore with her husband. She enjoys all areas of small animal practice, but feels special satisfaction treating senior patients and hospice, performing soft tissue surgery, and building relationships with clients. Dr. Scofield grew up with gun dogs and enjoys watching any sporting breed in action. When not working, she enjoys trail running with her dogs, outdoor sports, fishing, cooking, gardening, and traveling with her husband.
Laura Downes, Practice Manager
Laura joined CVH in 2016 as the practice manager. After obtaining a BS from Towson State Univ., Laura worked at the Univ. of MD’s law school and then at the Office of the Attorney General at the MD Dept. of Agriculture. After 5 years, she moved on to become the first executive director of the State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners, a position she held for over a decade. Laura’s interest in veterinary medicine and law drew her to CVH, where she could see first-hand the care, dedication, and love the staff and clients have for pets. When away from CVH, Laura enjoys spending time with family, including two orange Tabbies—Lenny and Squiggy—reading, and spending time outdoors.
Kim, Veterinary Technician
Kim has worked as a veterinary technician since 1999 and has been with CVH since 2005. Prior to that, she worked in the human health field. Kim has special interests in surgery and dentistry. Kim has two sons and grandchildren whom she enjoys spending time with. She also enjoys music and outdoor activities, especially during the summer.
Miranda, Registered Veterinary Technician
Miranda has been with Chesapeake Veterinary Hospital since 2012. She has been in the veterinary field since 1997. After graduating from Wilson College in Chambersburg, PA in 2001, she became a Registered Veterinary Technician in Maryland. Miranda enjoys many aspects of her job, but has special interests in surgery and dentistry. She and her husband, Jason, live in Queenstown with their German Shepherd, Gus.
Anne Marie, Client Care Specialist
Anne Marie has been employed at CVH as a client care specialist for nearly 20 years. She is always greeting our clients with a cheerful smile. A Kent Island native, Anne Marie enjoys spending time with her animals which include dogs, cats, chickens, sheep, miniature horses, birds, rabbits, and fish. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, 5 children, and the rest of her large family–especially her 2 granddaughters, Riley and Naomi.
Donna, Client Care Specialist
Donna has been employed at CVH since 1993 as a veterinary assistant and now primarily as a client care specialist. She enjoys meeting and greeting clients and their pets. Donna lives on Kent Island with her husband, 2 children, 2 dogs, and 2 cats. When she’s not working, she enjoys spending time at home reading and watching movies.
Leah, Veterinary Assistant
Leah has been with CVH since 2013. She comes to us from the Annapolis area, where she lives with her dog, Gabby.
Melissa, Veterinary Assistant
Melissa has been with CVH since 2013. She lives in Stevensville with her dog Tucker. In 2013, Melissa completed the veterinary assistant program at Chesapeake College, and received her certification. She is currently studying at Anne Arundel Community College to further her education in healthcare.
Sarah, Veterinary Assistant
Sarah has been at CVH since 2013. She is from Centreville and is currently studying at Chesapeake College with the intention of going into the health care field. In her spare time, she enjoys playing with her dog, Remi, and anything that involves the outdoors.
Shelley, Veterinary Technician
Shelley is one of the newer team members, joining CVH in 2017. She has worked as a veterinary technician for well over 15 years. Before that, her four-legged friends kept her busy as a trainer. Animal behavior is her passion. She also enjoys fishing, crabbing, and cooking for her family. Shelley lives in Chester with her 3 dogs, all of which make her smile daily.
Danielle, Veterinary Assistant
Danielle (“Dani”) first got her feet wet at CVH through her participation in the Veterinary Assistant program at Chesapeake College. Her love for animals began at a very young age, having grown up on a farm here on the eastern shore, where she has raised black angus chickens and ducks. Dani ultimately wants to study large cats following degrees in biology and veterinary medicine. Her 2 dogs, 3 cats, and rabbit help keep her busy when she’s not studying or working at CVH.
Melissa, Registered Veterinary Technician
Melissa has been working in the veterinary field for 6 years. She attended veterinary technology school in North Carolina, and became a Registered Veterinary Technician in 2014. She has previously gained experience in a veterinary ER and surgical specialty practice before joining our staff. Melissa has also spent time in Sri Lanka working with elephants! In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, being outside, and yoga. She has a cat named PopTart, and a dog named Cooper.
Kate, Veterinary Technician, and Social Media Coordinator
Kate is new to the eastern shore but was born and raised across the bridge in Arnold, Md. She started her career with animals 5 years ago and has a history of working with large, small, and exotic animals. She recently left her full-time job at a Veterinary Neurologist to start her next chapter of life with CVH. She enjoys being active outdoors, hunting, fishing and spending time with her animal’s Panda, Sophie, Oyster, and Romeo.
